As
a communication tool and data storage, handphone has some cracks which can be used by others. Don't let it harm yourself. Fortunately, Android has some good security features, so we do not need any third party applications. Maximize the features. Although the tips make you uncomfortable but they are necessary to protect your android.
Download apps only from Google Play Store
Download any other third party apps make your android could be unsecure. Set your configuration : Go to Settings --> Security --> uncheck Unkown Sources column. Then check Verify Apps
Review the apps you would install
Download the apps which are built by trsuted developers or recommended by Google.
Second, check the permission. Some of the apps asked your permission to access your account, SMS, location or your internet connection. Avoid too much permission from the apps.
Use the complicated passwords
The predictable password would ease some apps to hack and use your data for some benefits. For advance security, do not use the predictable PIN or passwords. And also set your configuration : Go to Settings --> Security --> Screen Lock and choose Password. Uncheck "Make password visible".
Encrypt data
By encrypting your data, others wouldn't easy to access your data, even your Android has been stolen or lost. Go to Settings --> Security --> Encrypt Phone, and also do it to the Encrypt SD Card.
Be Careful with Wi-Fi Connection
Be aware of Wi-Fi Connection. Even if you use it for some important transaction : Credit Card, PIN, etc.
Always Use VPN
In case you have to use Wi-Fi, try to install VPN apps (Virtual Private Network). Activate VPN feature. Go to Settings --> Wireless & Network --> More --> VPN.
Turn off The Notifications
If your phones is locked, some notifications still appear in Status Bar. They might be confirmation codes after you have done a transaction or any other sensitive data. Unfortunately, android did not provide an option to turn off the notifications overall. So, you have turn it off one by one. Go to Settings --> Apps and choose the apps, then uncheck "Show Notifications"
Use Two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication is the best method to enhance your security. The method can be applied in Google accounts. By using this method, except you have to enter the password, you have to enter the additional code. So, it is useful if your password has been cracked. To turn on Google two-factor authentication, visit http://accounts.google.com/AmsAuthConfig.
